I first 'met' Lance Corporal Chance Phelps in Lt.Col. Michael Strobl's article, Taking Chance, posted by BlackFive.
The story of Chance's journey home has been made into an HBO movie due to be aired February 21st."Marine Corps Lance Corporal Chance Phelps, 19, was killed near Baghdad on April 9 2004, and buried in Dubois, WY on April 17.
This letter, written by Lt. Col. Michael R. Strobl of the Total Force Structure division at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA, tells one Marine's story of the emotional journey that brought Phelps' body home from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware."

I AM A FORMER SGT. IN THE USMC. UPON WATCHING THE STORY ON HBO MY HEART GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND ALL OUR FALLEN TROOPS . THE RESPECT SHOWN WAS OUTSTANDING, BUT I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHY TAPS WAS NOT PLAYED AT THE BURIAL. IT COMPLETES THE BURIAL WITH DIGNITY, UNLESS HIS PARENTS DID NOT WANT IT PLAYED. TO ALL OUR TROOPS, SEMPER FI AND COME HOME SAFELY. R.F. SHERMAN SR. USMC 68-72 NAM 69-71
