The Killing: Who Killed Rosie Larsen

Tonight we'll finally know.

It's supposed to be someone surprising.

For the last 25 episodes, the writers have deftly pointed the finger of blame at various suspects.

It's Jasper. No, it wasn't. It's Belko. No, it wasn't. It's Bennett. No, it wasn't. 

The last couple of episodes it has seemed that Jamie is the guy.

Even tho Jamie was wearing a hoodie in the elevator (as shown by the security camera) ... and the person chasing Rosie through the forest was wearing a hoodie ... and both Jamie and the unknown-as-yet chaser are of smallish build ... I'm thinking that no, it isn't ...

My personal guess is:  Terry, Rosie's aunt 

 

and here's why:

Terry had a thing with married man Michael Ames (Jasper's dad and my original #1 suspect), even telling Stan they were talking about having kids and he was going to buy her a house. I think maybe M.A. made an indecent proposal to Rosie while she was working at the casino ... which she turned down ... but Terry heard or saw something that she misinterpreted ... and killed Rosie. 

Tonight-9pm-AMC.

                                                               

Okay, so here's the next big question:

Will Linden and Holder be back next year?

I really hope so.

"The Killing" 's Killer

For the past almost 13 weeks I've been watching AMC's excellent murder-mystery series "The Killing" and trying to guess 'who killed Rosie Larsen' .

Each episode explores the possibility of a different suspect.
The candidate. The aide. The teacher. The boyfriend.

Well, at first I was pretty sure it was Belko. Nope.

Now that we're down to the last episode (tomorrow night), I think I know who Rosie's killer might be.

I think it's  .....  Michael Ames, Jasper's father.

And, by the way, my favorite character is Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman), the detective who is just chock full of secrets himself.

Star Trek: The Future Begins

SPOILER ALERT: There are a couple.

We saw the new Star Trek movie yesterday.

As a TOS Trekkie, I was 96% pleased.

I deducted 1% for the time travel thing.
I just don't like it. It confuses me.
And I especially didn't like old Spock coming face to face with young Spock.
That's not supposed to ever happen.
Sci-Fi set the parameters for time travel...you can never meet yourself!!
Even Harry Potter knows that!

Another 1% for so many gigantic, humungous explosions.
CGI technology makes it them easy to do, so they do them and do them, bigger and louder....

And 1% for the Spock-Uhura thing.
I know the writers were showing the 'human side' of Spock, but the Spock I know would never have allowed that! Never. Unless it was Pon Farr.

What I did like: ALL the rest of it.

The characters (Kirk and Spock and Uhura and Sulu and Chekov) were great.

My 2nd favorite character was Montgomery Scott, played by Simon Pegg (aka Shaun of the Dead). Excellent! He stole every scene he was in, and there weren't enough of those!

My very favorite character was Dr. McCoy. Karl Urban was absolutely believable as the young Bones; he even looked like a younger version of Deforest Kelly.


There was also dialogue that any TOS Trekkie would recognize:

"I'm a doctor, not a physicist!"

I am glad the bad guys were the Romulans and not the Klingons. The Klingons are mean but stupid while the Romulans are mean but smart. Loved their nasty-looking ship.

Oh, and the last 1% deduction?

At the end of the movie, the familiar words:

Space... the Final Frontier. These are the continuing voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

were not in the familiar voice of the original
Captain James T. Kirk. --->

Star Wars Concert

Sometimes I just have to take a break from the insanity of:
 American politics, world news, and what passes for entertainment on television.
This always makes me smile!

Sci-Fi Phooey!

We watched the new "The Day the Earth Stood Still" despite its awful reviews.

We figured that's their opinion and besides, the CGIs will probably make it worthwhile.

The movie was a huge disappointment.
Especially Gort. When it morphed into a swarm of robotic insect-thingys, what was that all about?

When the earth stood still (finally), it was like an afterthought.

And the ending? Well it ended. Abruptly. Like this sentence.
What was that all about?

Oh well, there's always the new Star Trek prequel, which BTW, is getting excellent reviews.

"Gort! Klaatu Barada Nikto!"

Saturday is usually B-movie day on the Sci-Fi Channel and today's listings are: Tornado!, Tidal Wave-No Escape, Earthquake-Nature Unleashed, Ice, Magma-Volcanic Disaster, Atomic Twister, and Black Hole (not the Disney one) ... aha, today is Natural Disaster Day.

You know, I miss the old 1950's Sci-Fi movies with the lady scientists running around in high heels, tight skirts, and a pearl necklace. And, oh yeah, black-rimmed glasses to make them look serious. Chasing and being chased by creatures that had been transformed by exposure to *gasp* radiation.

The underlying message was that atomic bombs are bad and if we aren't careful the Cold War will turn Hot and radiation will destroy life as we know it and it will be all our fault.

Which brings me to ..."The Day the Earth Stood Still", a 1951 Sci-Fi classic.

Klaatu, the spaceman. Gort, the robot.

It's being remade with Keanu Reeves as Klaatu.
I can deal with an edgy, moody Klaatu.
I look forward to seeing a CGI-created Gort.

But Please, please, please .... do NOT have Klaatu bring a message about: global warming will destroy life as we know it... and it will be all Bush's fault!
