A Lesson In Irony

[Irony: the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning]

   Two Statements to consider:

We are told to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics.
BUT on the other hand, we are also encouraged TO judge ALL Gun Owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Now, just HOW is that supposed to work .....??

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 47 million people as of the most recent figures available in 2013.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us "Please Do Not Feed the Animals."

Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus Ends Today's Lesson On Irony!!

Deaf to Reason

This is shameful and disgusting:

Feds try to eliminate housing for deaf at complex built for hearing-impaired
Arizona is defying a federal order to eliminate apartments for deaf seniors at a housing complex built specifically -- for the deaf.
"I think it's about the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while," said Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who attempted to negotiate the impasse. "There are a lot of stories of out-of-control regulators, but this just seems to be going to the extreme."
A 2005 federal study found that the U.S. had virtually no affordable housing for the deaf. So the federal government helped build Apache ASL Trails, a 75-unit apartment building in Tempe, Ariz., designed specifically for the deaf. Ninety-percent of the units are currently occupied by deaf and deaf-blind seniors.
But now, the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development says Apache ASL Trails violates civil rights law -- because it shows a preference for the hearing-impaired.
"A preference or priority based on a particular diagnosis or disability and excluding others with different disabilities is explicitly prohibited by HUD's Section 504 regulations," says a HUD memo about the project. "There is no legal authority contained in any of Apache Trails funding to permit such a priority or preference."
However, when HUD approved and helped fund the project in 2008, it did so knowing that the property was specifically "designed for seniors who are deaf, hard of hearing and deaf blind."
The National Association for the Deaf has also stepped in, calling HUD's actions "atrocious" and "a tragic irony."

"HUD is forcing deaf and hard of hearing residents to live in isolation and firetraps," said the Association's CEO Howard Rosenblum in a letter to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan. "There is no statute or regulation that mandates any 25 percent quota."
State housing director Michael Trailor refuses to comply with the federal orders.
"Quite frankly, the attorneys I dealt with at HUD I would characterize as ignorant and arrogant and much worse, they are powerful," Trailor told Fox News. "And if they worked for me, I would have fired them a long time ago."
State taxpayers and the apartment's developer have spent $500,000 so far fighting HUD. After two years of negotiation, Trailor met with Donovan earlier this year hoping to resolve the dispute.
Trailor said: "He looked me in the eye and said, 'if you say we have taken too long to resolve this, you are right. If you say we haven't handled this very well, you're right. We're committed to solving this -- but to do so can you be patient?'"

Trailor asked "what patience means in terms of time," and was told it would be a matter of weeks.
"It's now been five months," he said.
   ...snip...
HUD provided the Arizona Deaf Senior Citizens Coalition and its developer $2.6 million in funds and tax credits to build the complex in 2008. It is now fully occupied, with 69 of the 74 rented to deaf and deaf-blind residents.

Is this truly our government at work?

It has reached an entire new level of incompetence and arrogance.

How It Works (or Doesn't)

And this is why we have added over 200,000 new government employees in the past two years, and no one can explain why we are still in a recession.
It's not a good time to be an ant.

Anthropomorphism

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for various groups of animals.

We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish, a Gaggle of geese, a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and, presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.
And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?
Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates.
The proper collective noun for a group of baboons:  a Congress!
I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington!

(Yes, I know these are chimps, but I didn't have a picture of baboons)

Thought for the Day

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be  tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt.  People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

Who is the genius that came up with this?

Big Sis Is Watching

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says the use of full-body scanners and invasive pat-downs at airports around the country will not change for the "foreseeable future".

She also dismissed a news report about major airports failing secret tests designed to get guns and knives past security screeners.

And then:

The High LowLights:
An airline pilot is being disciplined by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for posting video on YouTube pointing out what he believes are serious flaws in airport security.

The pilot has worked for the airline for more than a decade and was deputized by the TSA to carry a gun in the cockpit.

Three days after he posted a series of six video clips recorded with a cell phone camera at San Francisco International Airport, four federal air marshals and two sheriff's deputies arrived at his house to confiscate his federally-issued firearm.

At the same time as the federal marshals took the pilot's gun, a deputy sheriff asked him to surrender his state-issued permit to carry a concealed weapon.

A follow-up letter from the sheriff's department said the CCW permit would be reevaluated following the outcome of the federal investigation.

A letter from the TSA dated Dec. 6 informed the pilot that "an administrative review into your deputation status as a Federal Flight Deck Officer has been initiated."

The pilot's attorney said he believed the federal government sent six people to the house to send a message.

"And the message was you've angered us by telling the truth and by showing America that there are major security problems despite the fact that we've spent billions of dollars allegedly to improve airline safety," Werno said.
Yes, Change has come to America.

MMM Missed These

The Mainstream Media Morons  ignored  missed  these:

Van Jones (WH Green Jobs advisor),
ACORN tapes,
John Holdren (Science Czar),
Climate-gate,
politicizing the NEA,
Chas Freeman (NIC Chairman),
Tea Party protests,

This would be a great one:

Gitmo North

Despite the sheer idiocy of deliberately bringing terrorists into this country ...

The old maximum-security state prison in Standish, Michigan (145 miles from Detroit), which the state is closing, may become the new home of t
he 229 suspected al-Qaida, Taliban, and foreign fighters currently being held at Guantanamo Bay.

The local residents want the prison to stay open, but not for Gitmo transferees.

Governor Jennifer Granholm said she would rather take in prisoners from other states, such as California, than the Guantanamo detainees.
Leavenworth, Kansas, the second place on the list, doesn't want 'em either. In May, residents there told Senator Pat Roberts at a town hall meeting that 95% of the local community opposes it
The Opinionated Fool makes this observation:
Keeping in mind that Michigan has one of the largest Muslim populations in the U.S. (if not THE largest), it's not too much of a stretch to imagine Muslim guards guarding the Muslim internees, especially if this prison is run by the Feds (Bureau of Prisons).
Hello, what is that ringing in my ears?
Oh, it's an ALARM bell!
My 1st thought was, hey, just open the Gitmo gates and march 'em down the road towards Havana ... kinda like what Fidel did in 1980 when he opened the prisons and the insane asylums during the Mariel boatlift and sent approximatey 124,000 undocumented Cubans to the U.S. All of whom were welcomed by Goober Carter.
And, oh yeah, one government official estimated the cost for upgrading the building and security at over $100,000,000. Hey, what's a measly 100 Million Dollars to Barack Hussein Obama?

Official Insanity

The highlights from Phil Kerpen's

The deficit today crossed the startling trillion dollar threshold, a number never before even contemplated for a full year of federal borrowing, but that we have now breezed through in just half a year.

Such a deficit represents a crushing future tax burden for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren -- who will pay back every penny with interest.

The so-called stimulus bill was slammed through on partisan lines despite the overwhelming anger of almost everyone who was paying attention.

The bill, we were told, was our economic salvation (purely a coincidence, of course, that it happened to contain every item on the left's big government wish list).

Unemployment -- which the stimulus was supposed to keep under 8 percent -- is officially at 9.5 percent, and is 16.5 percent if you include people who have given up looking for work and part-time workers who wish they were full-time.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) said the stimulus didn't work because is wasn't "as targeted as it should've been" and "we need to go back to this and do this again. We need to do more of that."

Moreover, we have to pay back all the money we've borrowed, with interest, meaning that in the long-run the only two options are huge tax hikes or skyrocketing inflation.

Quite simply, it is impossible for government spending to make us richer when every way the government can raise money makes us poorer.

We can't afford another stimulus, a government takeover of health care, the cap-and-trade energy takeover, or any other radical big government policies.

Washington has "helped" quite enough; it needs to leave people alone.

Keeping Secrets

According to the AP, CIA Director Leon Panetta terminated a very serious covert
program that had been kept secret from Congress for 8 years. A covert program that had never been activated.

Now, why would the CIA want to keep something secret from Congress?
Well, duh.
Because of those 535 self-important blabbermouths.

Witness the current revelation by Rep. Jan Schakowsky, chairwoman of the Intelligence Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, who apparently managed to wait long enough for the AP to arrive before blabbing, and is now pushing for an immediate committee investigation of the (formerly) classified program.
Democrats revealed that CIA Director Leon Panetta had informed members of the House Intelligence Committee on June 24 that the spy agency had been withholding important information about a secret intelligence program begun after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Panetta had learned of the program only the day before informing the lawmakers, according to a U.S. intelligence official. The official spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because he was not authorized to discuss the program publicly.
Schakowsky charged that the CIA's lying was systematic and inexcusable, and that she thinks Panetta is 'changing the CIA for the better'.
"Many times I felt it was an annoyance to them to have to come to us and answer our questions," she said. "There was an impatience and a contempt for the Congress."
Ms Schakowsky knows all about contempt. Ask her about the Tea Parties .

The Organization Formerly Known as ACORN

Now Known as "Community Organizations International"

The organization formerly known as ACORN thinks it can somehow make things all better, maybe avoid criminal prosecution, by changing it's name.

Well, why not?

The War on Terror is now known as the Overseas Contingency Operation.

And a Terrorist is now referred to by some as a freedom fighter.

Czar You Kidding?

Barack Hussein Obama has been busily fulfilling his promise to 'create more jobs', only it's not for the 600,000 Americans filing unemployment claims.

No, he has been appointing 'Czars', somewhere between 16 -21 of them now.
Each one has as much or more power than Cabinet members and no accountability to anyone except Barack Hussein Obama; none with any sort of Congressional approval or oversight.
President Obama’s “czar strategy” is an unprecedented power grab centralizing authority in the White House, outside congressional oversight.

The power of the president increases as that of Congress decreases.
Are you paying attention yet?

Oops!

Secret List Of Nuke Sites Accidentally Released.

Are you effing kidding?

Had anyone in the Previous Administration allowed this to happen, there would be screams for heads to roll!

But not in the era of Hope'nChange where the publication of a 266-page list of 103 U.S. nuclear sites, some of which were
"highly confidential safeguards sensitive", and which details the location and work done there, is apparently no big deal.

The list was published MAY 6th and just recently taken down!

"There are "zero" national security implications to the publication of this document", said Steven Aftergood, director of the Federation of American Government's Project on Government Secrecy.

"I regret that some people are painting it as a roadmap for terrorists because that's not what it is," Aftergood said.

"This is not a disclosure of sensitive nuclear technologies or of facility security procedures. It is simply a listing of the numerous nuclear research sites and the programs that are under way," Aftergood said. "And so it poses no security threat whatsoever."

Hey, Mr Aftergood, perhaps you could define "highly confidential safeguards sensitive" and the reasons for this classification for me.

NOTE: I googled Steven Aftergood and got: www.fas.org/sgp/aftergood.html

However, the page would not load even after several attempts.
Too bad the site with The LIST didn't have that problem.
