Big Sis Is Watching

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says the use of full-body scanners and invasive pat-downs at airports around the country will not change for the "foreseeable future".

She also dismissed a news report about major airports failing secret tests designed to get guns and knives past security screeners.

And then:

The High LowLights:
An airline pilot is being disciplined by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for posting video on YouTube pointing out what he believes are serious flaws in airport security.

The pilot has worked for the airline for more than a decade and was deputized by the TSA to carry a gun in the cockpit.

Three days after he posted a series of six video clips recorded with a cell phone camera at San Francisco International Airport, four federal air marshals and two sheriff's deputies arrived at his house to confiscate his federally-issued firearm.

At the same time as the federal marshals took the pilot's gun, a deputy sheriff asked him to surrender his state-issued permit to carry a concealed weapon.

A follow-up letter from the sheriff's department said the CCW permit would be reevaluated following the outcome of the federal investigation.

A letter from the TSA dated Dec. 6 informed the pilot that "an administrative review into your deputation status as a Federal Flight Deck Officer has been initiated."

The pilot's attorney said he believed the federal government sent six people to the house to send a message.

"And the message was you've angered us by telling the truth and by showing America that there are major security problems despite the fact that we've spent billions of dollars allegedly to improve airline safety," Werno said.
Yes, Change has come to America.

The 69th Anniversary of the "Day of Infamy"

Just in case your social progressive educator (aka teacher) skipped the lesson on this date in American History:

Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941

U.S.S. Arizona Memorial

Pearl Harbor is a large U.S. Naval installation located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.

On Sunday, December 7th, 1941, the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed here.

This precipitated The United States’ entry into WW II.

Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo hoped to catch the entire US fleet in port, but the aircraft carriers and one of the battleships were not there.

When the attack was over: 2,403 killed
(over 1,000 from the USS Arizona, alone) including 68 civilians

Of the 8 Battleships in port, 5 were Sunk:

USS Arizona: Total loss when a bomb hit her magazine; 1,144 lost

USS Oklahoma: Total loss when she capsized and sank; 429 lost

USS California: Sunk at her berth

USS West Virginia: sunk at her berth

     USS Utah: sunk

     USS Pennsylvania: light damage

     USS Maryland: light damage

     USS Tennessee: light damage

USS Nevada: beached to prevent sinking

Change and Hope and Reality

Remember when Velma Hart told Barack Hussein Obama that she was:
"Quite frankly, I'm exhausted. Exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the man for change I voted for, and deeply disappointed with where we are right now."
"And quite frankly, Mr. President, I need you to answer honestly," she said, "Is this my new reality?"

And Barky's response:
"As I said before, times are tough for everybody right now. So I understand your frustration."

Well, I doubt that Barky understands but there is no doubt that Ms. Hart has a new reality - she has joined the ranks of the unemployed.

Despite this, Ms Hart still has Hope and wants to "focus on the positive and assume that somehow things will work out".

She may have to wait until 2012 when Barky will hopefully join the ranks of the unemployed.

Blue Moon

Tonight is a   Blue Moon.

A blue moon can be the second full moon in a calendar month.

Or it can be the third of four full moons in a single season.

The November 21, 2010 Blue Moon is the third of four full moons between the September 2010 equinox and December 2010 solstice.

This may explain the strange dreams I've been having.

That or the fact I've been watching "The Walking Dead".

Dirty Politics 2010

In the Florida governor's race:

Alex Sink violated the rules of the debate (cheated), then lied about it.

In the Florida Fracas for senator:

Charlie Crist, who was first a Republican and now an Independent, and who apparently has said he will caucus with the Democrats if elected, called Kendrick Meek, the Democrat in the race, and encouraged him to drop out. When Meek didn't return the 5 am phone call, Charlie showed up at a Meek campaign event. Throw in Bubba and we have quite the menage-a-trois.

Much ado About Crist-Meek-Clinton
Bubba Clinton Meddles in Senate Race
Bubba Clinton-Meek

In the US House election:

Alan Grayson is running a very nasty re-election campaign. Rumors persist that he has personally funded the campaign of Peg Dunmire (Tea Party candidate*) in order to draw conservative votes away from Dan Webster. Not illegal, but certainly unethical.

Alan Grayson Backing Florida Tea Party

It's interesting that most of the dirty politics, here in Florida at least, seem to be the doing of one particular political party.

(*Note: the Tea Party is not a political party, but rather a political movement)

The Crazy Season

This year's election cycle seems crazier than ever before. Here in Florida, Land of the Hanging Chads, it has reached a  fever pitch of insanity.

First up is Charlie Crist, our governor who governs by calling-in

That's right, he calls in to work because he's been campaigning for US Senator for the last year or so, before he completed his first (and hopefully only) term as governor. This guy is running a campaign ad that exalts his "integrity and honesty". Yeah. Charlie's honesty: Charlie assured us on camera that he was running as a Republican. In April, way behind in the polls, Honest Charlie switched from Republican to Independent. Charlie's integrity: After the flip-flop, he refused to return campaign donations  to his Republican supporters.

Then we have Alan Grayson, the motor-mouth moron who is paid by the taxpayers to represent my district in the US House of Representatives.

Where to start with this guy?  Remember "Die quickly" on the House floor?  Then there was his "Taliban Dan" attack ad, proven false. Let's not forget his campaign to have Angie Langley , private citizen, fined and jailed for expressing her 1st amendment rights. My Congressman IS nuts.

I can't wait until November 3rd.

Can We Swap?

Martin Sieff writes it:

What a man is this President Sebastian Pinera of Chile! He believes in God and is not afraid to say so. He doesn't care about being ridiculed by the American Civil Liberties Union or its Chilean equivalent: He orders church bells to be rung to celebrate the amazing, truly miraculous rescue of 33 miners trapped underground for more than two months in his country's San Jose mine.

Pinera doesn't give endlessly long speeches that are packed with so many weightless, meaningless clichés that they rise out of sight and out of memory as soon as the worthless, empty words are uttered. When Sebastian Pinera simply says, “We are not the same Chile we were 69 days ago,” he brings tears to the eyes of millions of people far beyond the borders of his own admirable country.

In other words, Sebastian Pinera is not Barack Obama. Pinera is a real leader for the 21st century. He is a real man.

President Pinera did not sit back passively when the miners were trapped. He did not show his so-called, metrosexual, 21st century cool head and so-called “emotional balance” by showing no passion. He felt it and he showed it.

Pinera put his presidency on the line by committing himself publicly to make sure those miners were rescued come what may. How Rahm Emmanuel must have laughed.

But did we get any leadership like that when BP (Yes – that’s BRITISH Petroleum, or maybe we should start calling them RUSSIAN Petroleum (RP) since they're investing so heavily in Siberia now) was choking the Gulf of Mexico with an unstoppable deep sea oil leak? The president of the United States you’ll recall, did nothing, absolutely nothing, for months except pout his mouth and grit his teeth – his usual substitute for any effective action on anything.

Obama didn't call in the best experts personally from around the world. He didn't put the vast resources of the United States government or assemble the unmatchable expertise of the U.S. oil industry, the best in the world, on the job. He just sat back passively and let RP -- sorry, BP – make things worse.

Barack Obama and his shameless acolytes like economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, The Washington Post's Richard Cohen and Newsweek's Jonathan Alter, have redefined democratic leadership as pious, whining, passive, dignified ineptitude. The only time Obama expresses any passion at all is when he’s whimpering about how all those big bad conservative talk show commentators are being so horrible to him.

The Chilean people in their democratically-expressed wisdom picked a brave and magnificent leader as their president. We got an empty suit who makes Jimmy Carter look like Rambo.

Can we swap?

Snakes in the Rain

The other day I came home to find a small snake stretched out in front of the stairway I needed to use. Living in Florida, home of 6 species of venomous snakes , I am always cautious when a live (and sometimes dead) slithery thing is within view. This was just a little guy, but hey, a bigger one could be nearby. And the colors/pattern on this one were those of either a corn snake (harmless), a brown water snake (harmless), or a copperhead (not harmless).  His head-shape didn't look triangular, but I wasn't gonna get closer. Now, most snakes don't look for an encounter with humans; they'll even run slither away as fast as they can, but this guy didn't budge, and yes, it was alive.

I wasn't about to step over the thing. I have a respectful fearfulness of them. I  think they belong wherever I am not.

Luckily, a maintenance guy was in the parking lot. So I waved him over, he took a look, got on the radio, and 4 carts of more maintenance guys appeared. It was determined that the snake was harmless and one of the guys used his picker-upper-thing to pick it up and toss it over the fence into the woods from whence it probably came.

So. This got me thinking: WHY (o why o why) are there so many species of venomous snakes? Not just in Florida but world-wide. For example: there are over 20 species of rattlesnake, NOT including subspecies.

You would think that one, maybe two, species of fanged killers would suffice.

Whoever's in charge of evolution needs replacing.

Speaking of Golf

How would you like to be this poor guy:

Patriot Golf Day

This weekend marks the date of a very special event :

"By participating in Patriot Golf Day, golfers nationwide support the children and spouses of military men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation."

So, why has Barack Hussein Obama, Golfer-in-Chief, who loves
playing golf   (and traveling ) decided to NOT play golf THIS particular weekend?

THAT says much about him, doesn't it?

"Beat Whitey Night"

Question #1:

Haven't heard about  This  on the MSM, have we?

Here's the  local media version

Robbie Cooper at  UrbanGrounds :

Now…imagine that it was a bunch of white kids, and it was “Beat Darkie Night.”

Imagine the non-stop media outrage on MSNBC if it were white kids doing this?  I’m sure there wouldn’t be any confusion as to whether or not race was a factor…

Question #2:

Dummy Dave, Media Moron

Dave Briggs  on Fox and Friends Weekend cemented his position as a Media Moron last Saturday with a couple of brilliant moronic remarks made within about 5 minutes of each other.

The 1st, a comment about Serena Williams, the foul-mouthed tennis diva who withdrew from the U.S. Open, "we need her back on the court"

Um. NO, we don't.

Then, in a report about some political candidate who had been caught photo-shopping herself with some celebrity, then lied about it, insisting it was real, Dummy Dave says, "Good try"

Like there isn't enough lying and cheating in politics without any sort of encouragement or approval.

Hopefully Dave will find himself doing sports (again) on some local podunk station. With my luck (not) it'll be here in Central Florida.

Stolen Valor

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that

a three-year-old federal law
that makes false claims
to have received a medal from the U.S. military
a crime

is unconstitutional.

The court majority said that "there was no evidence that such lies harm anybody, and there's no compelling reason for the government to ban such lies".

So now these LIES and the lying LIARS who tell them are protected by the First Amendment.

This is an unbelievable, unforgivable insult to every man and woman who have served, are serving and will serve their country in uniform.

Vacationer-in-Chief

Daniel Greene  writes it:

Meanwhile up over in DC, Obama is taking a break from his vacation, with a vacation. Because there’s nothing like working hard at a vacation to make a man want another vacation. It might be better for everyone concerned if Obama just went on vacation permanently by resigning, but then he wouldn’t enjoy all the benefits he does now. So instead here we go, with a whopping fifth vacation.

While many Americans are struggling to pay for a single vacation, the Obamas have blown more than the cost of most people’s homes, on vacation after vacation after vacation.
There they go again. For the fifth time since July, the first family has set plans to board Air Force One for a frilly vacation, a 10-day return trip to exclusive Martha’s Vineyard where they are expected to stay at the 28-acre oceanfront Blue Heron Farm that rents for up to $50,000 a week.
But first the Obamas will be traveling to the Gulf Coast of Florida for a mini-vacation as a way to encourage other vacationing Americans to head to the beaches that have been shunned by tourists worried about oil-slicked sands due to the Gulf oil spill. They are expected to travel to Florida this weekend, return to Washington for a few days then it’s off to the Massachusetts island August 19.
So after being guilted into the great act of self-sacrifice, of going on vacation in the gulf area, they’re keeping their focus on the usual haunts of the rich and famous.

Fallen Hero: SSgt Michael Bock, USMC

Staff Sgt. Michael A Bock, 26, was a combat engineer assigned to the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. He had served two deployments in Iraq and was in his second deployment in Afghanistan.

He was shot by small arms fire while on foot patrol in Helmand Province in southwest Afghanistan, according to the U.S. Marine Corps.

During his eight years of service, Bock had earned a long list of service awards, including a Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon.

The Hypocrite-in-Chief Strikes Again

Recession, unemployment, and wars be damned, Barack Hussein Obama is goin' on vacation!

North Carolina.  Maine.  Spain.  Now Florida.

Barky revved up Air Force One for a whole 27-hour trip to the Gulf Coast.

I wonder how much this photo-op cost us?

The picture was taken by a WH photographer because no press photographers or reporters were allowed to be present.

Apparently the press may have noticed that it wasn't the (oil-filled) Gulf that was being swum in.

The Associated Press:
The president’s dip happened away from the media. The White House released an official photo, but The Associated Press does not publish such handout images. According to the White House, the Obamas swam off Alligator Point, which is in Saint Andrew Bay, not the Gulf.
Oh, and dontcha just love the picture of POTUS, FLOTUS, and TOTUS on vacation together?

Because, you know, Barack Hussein Obama cannot be sincere unless he's reading it.

Did your news media show you the view with or without TOTUS?

Stark, Raving Lunatic

At a July 24 California town hall meeting, referring to the mandate in the federal health care bill requiring Americans to purchase medical insurance, Kymberleigh Korpus asked U.S. Rep Pete Stark (D/CA):

"If this legislation is constitutional, what limitations are there on the federal government's ability to tell us how to run our private lives?"

Stark's reply: "I think that there are very few constitutional limits that would prevent the federal government from rules that could affect your private life."

Ms Korpus asked: "... if the government can do this, what can't they?  Is your answer that they can do anything?"

Pete Stark, elected (19 times) to represent the people of California, responded: "The federal government, yes, can do most anything in this country."

As the boos died down, a comment was made that he, and people that think like him, "are destroying this nation."

Pete Stark responded:  "And I guess you're here to save it.  And that makes me very uncomfortable."

Well, Mr Stark. Your idea of an all-powerful federal government does not in any way resemble the Constitution you have sworn (19 times) to uphold.

The Constitution is quite specific about what powers each branch of the federal government has.

The 10th Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

The government exists to serve the people, not the other way around.

Those who believe as Mr. Stark does are indeed destroying this country.

Note:
This is the same guy who last week said denying jobs to illegal aliens could be unconstitutional.

This is the same guy who in 2007, said on the House floor
that the Bush administration was going to spend money "to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."
